FULL DAY TOUR TO CASTRO MARIM, TAVIRA & OLHÃO

This tour will lead us to the east side of the Algarve, almost to the border with Spain, where culture, history, and tradition have been kept the same until today.

Castro Marim - On the top of a hill stands a castle, on the top of another a star-shaped fort. Between the two sprawl the houses of Castro Marim, with their white walls edged with brightly-painted borders, their flat roofs, and their ornate chimneys sculpted into lace-like patterns. All around, the dark brown of schist, set off by the cool blue of the river and, by the horizon of the sea.

Tavira - The castle and the bell-towers of a multitude of churches. The river is like a mirror reflecting houses and gardens. The distinctive outline of roofs in the local "Tesouro" ("treasure") style. Broad vistas of sea and sand.

These are among the charms of Tavira, a city of art and history and an essential port of call on any cultural tour of the Algarve. In the 1500s Tavira was the most populous city in the Algarve and a port of great strategic importance. The events of that period have left an enduring mark on the layout and appearance of the city.

Olhao - When visiting Olhao, it is worth wandering trough the fishermen's quarter, which stands between the quay on the Ria Formosa and the earth of the city defined by the main church. The houses here are small and white, their walls topped with bands of geometric decoration that are in effect the verandas of the roof terraces.

The streets that border the Avenida da república, itself a symbol of the urban development that took place at the turn of the century, reflect a city of industrials and ship-owners who grew rich from the fish processing business and trade, displaying their wealth by decorating their homes with verandas, tiles, carved stonework, and wrought iron.

ADEGA DO CANTOR

The Adega do Cantor or Winery of the Singer is situated at Guia, a few kilometers northwest of Albufeira in the middle of the Algarve. It was built to produce wine, principally the Vida and Onda Nova ranges, from three surrounding Quintas, Quinta do Moinho, Quinta do Miradouro, and Vale do Sobreiro.

Our aim is to produce the highest quality wine that the region can offer using a combination of traditional and innovative modern winemaking techniques.

The winery is situated at the top of Quinta do Miradouro from which stunning views of the surrounding
vineyards and coast line can be seen.
