Fátima and Óbidos – Full Day 9 hours
This tour will show us Fátima, the religious capital of Portugal, and the magnificent medieval town of Óbidos.
Fátima carries a peaceful energy that many travelers notice the moment they arrive. This small town in central Portugal is one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world. Its story begins in 1917 when three young shepherd children reported seeing apparitions of the Virgin Mary. That moment changed the town forever, turning it into a place where millions come seeking comfort, faith, and reflection.
Óbidos has this fairy-tale charm that makes you feel like you just stepped into the pages of a medieval storybook. This small fortified town in Portugal is wrapped in ancient stone walls and crowned with a majestic castle that watches over cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and flower-draped balconies. Every corner feels perfectly designed for wandering, photographing, and lingering a little longer than planned.
Tour Program:
Meet with your private guide at the hotel lobby. We will start the day with a visit to Fátima and its Sanctuary (one hour from Lisbon), the site where Our Lady of Fátima appeared in 1917. Since then, millions of pilgrims have gone there to pay their promises, to pray, or just to feel its mystical strength!
The Sanctuary Square is so big that it can only be described by numbers: it can simultaneously receive 300.000 visitors and it's twice the size of St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
Continue to the beautiful and very ancient walled town called Óbidos. A medieval city surrounded by the walls of the castle with picturesque narrow streets, whitewashed houses, iron balconies, and flower pots in every window. Inhabited by Romans and Arabs, this was the dwelling place of the Portuguese court for more than 500 years. We’ll walk through the feudal streets up to the main square close to the highest castle tower, from where you can enjoy a nice view of the countryside and Óbidos.
Walking the ramparts, visitors can enjoy views of windmills, vineyards, and surrounding farmlands. Time to visit the many handicraft shops and wine taverns with the local liqueur “Ginginha”.
Just walk around and let the streets lead you into the steep alleyways with colorfully framed houses.
After the visit, return to the hotel.
